"There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image; make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: There is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to 'The Outer Limits'."

And so it went each week with the control voice uttering these scary and chilling words. Almost all of the episodes ended and closed with the control voice telling us the mysteries of the universe or asking us compelling questions. The Outer Limits was one of the most incredible shows ever to air on television. It litterally scared the pants off millions of viewers each week when it first aired on September 16, 1963. In fact, some of the monsters were so scary thatr local tv stations blanked the screen for a few seconds so as to not reveal the monster to the viewing audience! Both seasons of The Outer Limits were shot in black and white (the series was actually cancelled mid-way through the second season) and the shadowy scenes with the monsters were totally terrifying. This was a show with good scripts (most of the time anyway), some of the finest up and coming acting talent in Hollywood, awesome musical score and fine direction from some of the top directors in the business, even motion picture directors! When it when off the air on January 16, 1965 due to low ratings, there was a sense of great loss. The show that captivated and terrified us each week was gone forever. But it leaves a lasting impression to this day, 30 years later. I hope you enjoy this page as much as I adore this show!!

But it doesn't end here. MGM has brought back The Outer Limits in another weekly series and it is absolutely spectacular! The stories, special effects and acting are top notch. Even this new logo draws you to this show. The new theme is AWESOME!! And it's fitted for the 21st century. They add the "thousand channels" dialog to reflect cable and satellite tv, something which wasn't around in the early 60's when the original show was on the air. A most impressive show, currently in its sixth season, that stays true to the original by having the control voice involved in every episode. Here is the new opening dialog:

"There is nothing wrong with your television, do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are now controlling the transmission. We control the horizontal and the vertical. We can deluge you with a thousand channels, or expand one single image to crystal clarity, and beyond. We can shape your vision to anything our imagination can conceive. For the next hour we will control all that you see and hear. You are about to experience the awe amd mystery which reaches from the deepest inner mind to 'The Outer Limits'."

Check out The Outer Limits on the home page MGM has setup for it. It's graphically intense and very impressive. You can download still pictures and full motion video clips from selected episodes. It is really worth a look as the "awe and mystery" of this new show stimulates our inner minds to the wonders of 'The Outer Limits'.
