It's the year 1968 and the United States has undertaken the greatest task ever attempted by mankind -- time travel. To save the $7.5 billion dollar project from being scrapped by Senator Clark of the U.S. government, Dr. Tony Newman goes through the time tunnel in an attempt to show that it does indeed work. What he doesn't know at this point however is that even though it can send him into time, it can't bring him back!

This show lasted only one season, 30 episodes. Some of the stories were decent, some were silly, others were awful. The episodes that dealt with the past were pretty good. But as soon as creator and producer Irwin Allen went into the future, it got downright stupid. He used the same props for those future episodes that he used in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Lost in Space. But the real star of this show was the tunnel itself. A marvelous piece of special effects that won an award in the 60's for its design. I have always been fascinated with time travel, perhaps that is why this show interests me like it does. But they could have done so much more with it if Allen had a bigger budget to hire better writers. Guess we'll never know.

The first episode, "Rendevous With Yesterday", had Tony going into the tunnel and landing on the Titanic just before it is hit by the iceberg that will sink it. Seeing this in the tunnel complex, his good friend and leader of the project, Dr. Doug Phillips, goes into the tunnel himself and also lands on the Titanic in an attempt to save Tony from a watery grave after Tony is placed under arrest in his cabin after telling the captain of the Titanic's fate. Tony and Doug escape the disaster after the tunnel complex transfers them to another point in time. And so it went week after week with our heroes. At the end of the last episode we see Tony and Doug materialize once again on the deck of the Titanic leaving us to believe that the whole process will repeat over and over again.
