This was the beginning of Irwin Allen's television adventure. He had made a film of the same title and it went over so well he decided to make it a weekly show. It started out in black and white during the first season and was mainly a spy type of show. After that it was color and slipped more into silliness with awful stories, poor acting and weak monsters. But it still had a wonderful charm including a terrific theme song (Allen's shows always had good themes because they were written by John Williams). Richard Basehart as Admiral Nelson and David Hedison as Captain Crane sometimes seemed like they wish they were someplace else but were nevertheless steady.
